Tools to Execute:
Custom Cabinetry Package

General Construction Package:

Overall Design Approach:
  • Create a functional entry mudroom with plenty of four-season storage and easy organization for the whole the family.
  • Create open concept kitchen | dining - maintaining clear sightlines from the bay window and new window over the sink for the beautiful nature views and natural sun light that floods in
  • Incorporating a designated beverage | coffee station.
  • Create an appliance garage | station to keep countertops clear.
  • Intentional cabinet functions.
  • Designated place for water Berkey that is easily filled and used.
Space Planning Major Considerations:
  • Central island
  • Maintaining 'circular' traffic around the main level of the home
  • Home schooling storage & surface for home schooling
  • Powder Room Access/Flow
  • Clever/Usable corner cabinet solutions
Aesthetic:
  • Maintaining an overall neutral palette with the hard finishes that can then be layered with pops of color through accessories, textiles and plant life. Durability and longevity being another key factor throughout this design, a simple 12x24 tile flooring in the mudroom and carried into the kitchen will be able to withstand heavy use and traffic without competing with the existing hardwood floors.

Design Intentions:
  • Bench
    • Grounding and making use of the negative space in the center. An easily accessible place to sit and put your shoes on or drop off the first handful of groceries.
  • Drywall Closets x2
    • The 2 closets will serve as hanging space and extra shelving for shoes or bins on the bottom. This will be a cost effective solution to maximize storage in this space without adding additional built-ins constructed by the millwork shop.
  • Built - In bench w/ Hinging Top
    • Each cubby has its own hinged section of the bench for easy organization within the family. The simple construction method of plywood, 2x4s and piano hinges makes this another simple storage solution.

  • Individual Cubbies
    • Each family member can have their own section with 3 hooks and their own designated bins and baskets above and closed storage below.
  • Freestanding Dresser
    • A salvaged piece of furniture will add plenty extra storage in the entryway at an approachable price point. This could be painted the complimenting accent color ‘Smoke’ to blend with the palette, left as a natural wood for added warmth, or painted another pop of color to better align with your personal style.
  • Guest Hooks
    • Clear space for your guests to hang their belongings to easily maintain a tidy mudroom.

  • Layout 2 is highlighted by the large island that is accompanied by a smaller beverage | coffee station and rectangle dining table with bench seating to complete the space.
