- Material | Finish Application
- All natural shake siding and roof
- Inset Transition 'Vestibules' [Entryway & Stairs|Breakfast Room] Finished in Black, Including Face of Entry Extended Roof Overhang
- The texture applied to these black surfaces is intended to be the same Cape Cod Wood Bob has proposed to finish around the doors and windows, etc. to which the shake siding would return. By using the horizontal boards we create high impact contrast and vary texture. *Metallic Panels can be used in place of the horizontal boards if this look feels too casual or not in-line with your personal styles.
- This is an edit of materials from the last images sent and can be changed easily to perfectly suit you. The reasoning for this proposed change is:
- 1. the front elevation window change from the original design brings more wall surface which, when applying black framing, overpowers. By calling attention to the entry vestibule with the black, and repeating it more subtly under the raised windows, the high contrast finishes feel intentional.
- 2. the extended roofline over the entry pulls your main attention and the previously proposed stone falls away. The visual impact of the black brings balance to the overall curb appeal.
- Garage Doors are Garaga, Contemporary Top Tech, 4 grooves. Simple style with subtle detailing.
- Proposing Black Soffits, Stepped Facia, and Gutters with a copper break along the cedar roofline.
- This creates a clear start stop for the roof and walls in a visually pleasing way.
- Windows have been brought to the exterior edge of the joists. Doors remain inset, on the concrete foundation.
- This does call out the different entrance styles differently, but it looks good IMO with this application.
- The final scene of the video highlights the finish around the door going into the primary bedroom wing. Due to the depth of the exterior frame, a single board would not work so we're suggesting repeating the two boards stepped, like the facia along the roof over hang. Showing the same repeat of the bent copper over these doorways as well
- *Included it over the windows but I'm not sure that is necessary for construction and could vary per Bob.
- Lighting is applied to the walls around the entrance and courtyard, not in the narrow soffits.
- The top|bottom flood style fixtures wash the elevation in an unassuming way that brings a warm welcome and task lighting without glowing up the structure.
- More Substantial fixtures on both the entrance and courtyard sides of the entry vestibule bring character.
- Stone Repeated on the fireplaces could also be used behind the hot tub and foundation.
- The outdoor kitchen and roof system above finished in black are another high contrast to the natural shake siding.
- Lucas, we can play with stone columns here if you'd like. I played with it and the impact didn't translate well but we can discuss further.
